Propaganda for War
Propaganda made sure that the civilians only knew what the government wanted them to know during the war. This was to make sure that the citizens were all for what the government was doing on the war field- even though they didn't know the truth of what their government was doing, nor what other governments were up to.
This is a propaganda poster from WWI showing Uncle Sam hushing a U.S. citizen. Why would he do that?
During WWI, spies were coming into enemy countries to see if they could find out intelligence about their strategies. This poster is warning citizens not to talk about the war because you never know who might be listening at any given moment.

This poster is not geared toward the men of the country, as so many of them are. Instead, this one is geared to the girlfriends of the young men. Persuading the young women to send their men off to the war. While emphasizing the point that 'if your 'best boy' does not think your country is worth fighting for, then what makes you think he's worthy about you?', it is also accomplishing the task of getting young men out there fighting for their country.
